Iraq Body Count Exhibit - Eugene, Oregon |
Many people took advantage of the photogenic scenes. It was a stunningly
beautiful creation.
I would have to estimate that over 200 people turned out throughout
the day to help set up this enormous display.
Most of the red flags symbolizing the U.S. casualties.
I estimated that the 120,000 flag display took up the space of 3 or
4 football fields!
As this exhibit travels from campus to campus, it will add to the number
of white flags until the total reaches
655,000. That is the number of civilians that is estimated to have
been killed in the Iraq War. This number comes from
the widely respected British Medical Journal "Lancet Report"
Many, many(!!!) folks stopped to take pictures with their cameras or
cell phones.
The exhibit had a profound effect on many people. This lady with the
bike told me that her foster son was currently in Iraq.
Carol provided numerous interviews to media folks throughout the day.
Off to her left in the red jacket is Cims Gilespie.
Many of us who helped with this exhibit were asked throughout the day,
"Why are you doing this?".
The answer is in this picture. Hint, don't look at the text, look into
the eyes.
