On January 2nd, the IVAWdeployed arrive late at night at Camp Revere
in Eugene Oregon. They had come from California,
and were on their way to the Fort Lewis area to establish "Camp Resistance".

Some Eugene Peace folks had a "support potluck". We loaded them up
with food to go, and a little cash too.
Our local Code Pink supplied them with a bag of apples, what kind?
PINK LADIES of course!!!

Not until 7:30am did we find out that our own bus "The Spirit of Garberville"
was ready to pick up from the truck repair shop
that had just replaced a bad transmission. Our bus had been "down"
for almost two months while we scrambled to find a replacement
trannie and cash to make it happen. It all came together at the VERY
last minute!
We rushed over to pick it up, bring it back, load it up and leave with
the IVAWdeployed Vets for Fort Lewis.
Here is Free, his first time on our bus, standing next to one of the
bus co-owners, Jack Dresser.
Here is a pic taken from our bus somewhere in Washington State.
Peace!
When we first arrived at Fort Lewis, we turned into the main gate and
tried to get on base to buy some cigarettes at the PX.
We were greeted by contracted civilians who seemed a bit disheveled
by the sudden appearance of two large antiwar busses.
They "processed" us at the gate for quite awhile and ordered us ahead
to their inspection area. We gleefully parked our busses
in full view of of the base workers who were all leaving at the end
of the day. A "real" MP was called to deal with us who I suspect was probably
the senior on-duty MP. He was very full of himself and not at all amused
by our presence or our request to go to the PX to buy cigarettes.
While there, just inside the gate, our drivers licenses, insurance
papers, registration and cameras were all confiscated, and the
few pictures that we had taken at the gate were removed from our digital
cameras.
In all, we were there for at least an hour, and were seen by many hundreds
of end of the day workers heading home.
The MP finally gave us our cameras and papers back and ordered us all
to leave which we did.
We would return the next morning for some more fun.
